For Arts Sake? Society and the arts in the 21st century
Jamie Cowling, For Arts Sake? Society and the arts in the 21st century (April 2004)
This publication grew out of a series of seminars undertaken by ippr during 2003-04 as part of their Arts and Society programme - it brings together policymakers, academics and professionals from a variety of backgrounds to consider the arts’ contribution to these wider social goals.
Edited by Jamie Cowling, the discussion of the range of social and economic benefits from participation in the arts and culture, the seven contributors look at the evidence and begin to develop a ‘shared language’ and shared methodological frameworks to consider the claims, focusing particularly on the contexts of:
- education
- mental health and
- criminal justice.
